I’m Rodney Combs, Ph.D., and this is my writing spot. Welcome.
I’m glad you’re here because all this is for you.
For a fun story and more specifics about why I write (and speak), go here.
I want to be a useful resource so you can experience and share the incredible life God has planned for you. If you don’t already know it, a remarkable journey with Jesus is waiting for you.
I love Jesus, but I’m not into cheesy or passive Christianity. I often use rugged Christianity to describe the costly and rewarding discipleship the Bible describes. Jesus is the creator and King of the world, so he deserves my attention and life. Plus, he makes sense of my life and helps me survive the mess and thrive in spite of myself.
I’m exploring and reporting on the question, “How can we journey with Jesus better?”
I’m married to Cyndy. She’s beautiful, inside and out, and her love for me reminds me how good God is.
We have three fascinating kids who successfully launched from the nest and found terrific people to marry them. We can’t find enough time together, but they make me a better person when we do.
I relish outdoor adventures, a good round of golf, a hard workout, discovering truth in Scripture, provocative movies, intriguing conversations, and being inspired by the courage of others and the miraculous touches of God.
I have:
- a Ph.D. in New Testament studies (minors in preaching and church growth).
- an M.Div.BL (Masters of Divinity with Biblical Languages).
- a B.A. degree in speech communication from the remarkable Baylor University. Sic ’em, Bears.
I’ve served as Lead Pastor at creative and missional churches in Texas and Illinois.
I’ve coached hundreds of growing Christians and pastors in the USA and abroad.
I’ve consulted with churches about leadership, strategy, mission, and discipleship.
I’ve published one book, a few articles, and am working on more.
I still love my friends and family in my hometown of Springfield, Missouri.
I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Let’s journey with Jesus better.
